About the Founder

Advanced Recording Studios was founded by William David who has been in the recording and live performance technical industries for over 25 years. His experience and skill-sets span decades of different music genres, industry technology updates and recording theory combined with real-world application.

William David is also an active member of the Audio Engineering Society.

Advanced Recording Studios, LLC, is an active member of the Society of Professional Audio Recording Services organization.

Studio Concepts

Advanced Recording Studios operates on the concept of extremely clear, yet, warm tones. To accomplish this, the use of high-end recording mixers and recorders is necessary. Indeed, it is even more important that an engineer/producer who understands and knows how to use such high-end equipment is at the helm. You will find that rare combination of equipment and engineers/producers here!

This facility utilizes Digidesign's flagship recording suite, ProTools HD, combined with a state-of-the-art console, the Digidesign C|24 and high-definition 192 I/O interfaces. These components provide the platform required to record and produce all tracks at the high-definition rate of 96KHz. In some cases, such as concert film 5.1 surround, the studio will record and produce at sample rates as high as 192KHz.

Additionally, the facility has a dedicated vocal room to record pristine vocal and voice-over tracks and the studio is maintained in a very clean condition creating a comfortable, creative environment.

The technical capabilities of this studio include the ability to bring out-of-time recordings back into tempo. We can also completely replace sounds (like a tom sound from your kit that just irks you!) or augment sounds while also keeping the original dynamics of the recording. In fact, we can record a complete drum kit performance and replace the entire kit with “perfect” samples without losing the drummers groove, nuances or feel.

Mastering

For mastering, we use both high-end audio analysis software and, most importantly, our ears! Mastering is not viewed as a completely separate phase of the recording process here. It is viewed as the final step in the overall process. That means we maintain access to the original mix and tracks while completing the mastering step. This allows us to tweak the master back at the original track mix levels. The benefits of this process are much beyond that of older analog processes that only master what is on two tracks from the song mix-down.

These same practices are also applied to film score and film mastering productions. Overall sound quality, consistent volume leveling and volume-impact levels are all considered to be tools that drive audience emotion and as essential components of cause and effect within film contexts. We look at the overall tone of the audio in a film production as a primary contributor to the audiences' emotional perception of the work. The "tone" includes such elements as final mastering compressions, brightness/darkness of dialogue, effective use of 5.1 and 7.1 surround tone and imaging and audio scene continuity.

Producing/Engineering Philosophy

William David views the role of the engineer/producer to be the facilitator of the message the artist is trying to convey to their audience. He looks to bring out the best performance of the artist without changing the style, tone or "image" of the artist and/or film composition.
