FAQ

Q: How much does it cost to record my CD?

A: This is dependent upon several factors that include prior studio experience, readiness of the musicians, etc. We offer package pricing that includes recording, editing, mastering and even CD duplication/printing (optional). You can choose to record at an hourly rate or you can request a package quote. Please see our pricing page and/or request a quote by selecting the menu item at the left.

Q: How long will it take to record my CD?

A: While this depends on how many songs you will record and what instruments are used, a good estimate is roughly 10 hours to record, edit, mix and master one good song. This can sometimes take a little less and sometimes can take much longer. Be careful of anyone who tells you that a song can be radio-ready in under 10 hours as that's an indicator of inexperience!

Q: What type of core recording equipment do you use and why did you choose to use it?

A: We use the state-of-the-art Digidesign C|24 console, and Digidesign 192 I/O interfaces. The reason we chose this setup is because of the advanced technology ProTools HD 8 affords us in offering all types of tonal characteristics...both modern and vintage.

Q: Can I download music from the Internet (iTunes, etc.) and have you add my voice as the vocal track?

A: You are responsible to obtain the appropriate licenses that authorize you to do so. It is not the responsibility of the Studio to obtain such licenses. To obtain licenses, you should start here: www.harryfoxagency.com

Q: Can I record a song that was recorded by another artist (cover)?

A: As in the question above, you are responsible to obtain the appropriate licenses that authorize you to do so. It is not the responsibility of the Studio to obtain such licenses. To obtain licenses, you should start here: www.harryfoxagency.com

Q: How do I pay you for your services?

A: We require a $50 deposit at the time you book your first session. We understand you have bills to pay. Therefore, when we take on your project, we will work out a payment schedule with you. However, all balances must be paid before we will release a master recording.

Q: I have never been in a studio before and I don't want to look like a "newbie."

A: We ALL had to walk into a studio for the first time, just like you! One thing you will ALWAYS find with us is that we have a very comfortable, non-intimidating atmosphere and attitude. If you had all of the years of engineering experience we have, you wouldn't need us...and we realize that fact and that YOU are our client. Come in, ask questions...ANY questions! We enjoy talking about YOUR project! We genuinely take interest in what our clients are trying to convey to their audience.

Q: How do I copyright my material?

A: The U.S. Copyright Office now allows you to apply for copyrights online. You can visit the U.S. Copyright Office website here.

Q: I am interested in recording but I won't be ready until about 3 months from now, when should I come in to speak with you?

A: The sooner, the better! There are many aspects of recording and the overall project that you may not be aware of or have contemplated. The consultation meeting is FREE...take advantage of it!

Q: Have you recorded major label artists or have any artists been recognized by big labels from work you've produced?

A: Yes. Most labels do not allow us to market any affiliation with them but we do work with major labels and their artists. Further, major labels have recognized and signed artists based on our productions.

Q: Are you owned by a parent company or major label?

A: No, Advanced Recording Studios, LLC, is a privately owned company.

Q: What type of music do you primarily record?

A: While it is true that many studios will be most comfortable with one particular type of music, the experience of our engineers spans everything from rock to hip-hop to christian to orchestral to new age to...you get the picture.

Q: So, what's so unique about your studio? Why should I choose you?

A: The combination of decades of experience in technology, differing music genres, industry-standard sound, and ability to understand and work comfortably with our clients put us heads above the rest. Our clients find that we have a knack for getting the "feel and message" they are attempting to relate towards their audience and producing it onto master recordings ready for radio, CD and Internet play. Additionally, we garantee your satisfaction with your final master. See our pricing page for the garantee specifics.
